Cartoon Recommendations from Moms (from Abigail)

This summer we’re doing cartoon recommendations by moms for moms (or by aunts/dads/nannies. . . just basically a grown-up who knows this is a cartoon that won’t make other grown-ups run screaming from the room).  So far we’ve heard about the wonders of Phineas and Ferb, the educational benefits of Martha Speaks, the sweetness of The Busy World of Richard Scary, the addictive songs of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, the adoption-friendly plot of Dinosaur Train, the British adorableness of Peppa Pig, and the fun settings of The Backyardigans. On with the recommendations!

Recommendation from: Abigail

The show: Oswald

Where to find it:  Originally aired on Nick Jr., now is on Amazon Prime

Why kids love it:

Bright, happy colors; Oswald does a great deal of smiling and is very gentle with his dog, Wenie and his friends. Ashton loves Wenie & Henry.

Why moms love it:

Oswald isn’t loud and obnoxious. He’s very gentle and kind. It’s actually very relaxing to watch sometimes.

Moral content:

There is an episode where Oswald does lie to his friends, Henry and Daisy in order to please both friends.

Any warnings:

Oswald does say “Gosh” a lot and as Ashton gets older, we will have to either not watch the show or talk about it.

Favorite Quote:

“Come out, come out wherever you are” (Oswald is looking for Wenie who is lost. Ashton, who is 2, sings this occasionally, except he puts a “p” where the “c” sound should be . . . pretty cute).

“Now I am up, now I am up, now I am up, now I am up.” (Henry and his cousin Louie are on a seesaw).
