The Isolated Mom

My radio spot for the week. Listen below or read if you rather.

I’m finally figuring out how to do life with six little kids. . . as long as the phone doesn’t ring, nobody comes over, and I don’t have to leave the house. So basically, I’m living in an introvert paradise if the introvert really likes changing diapers, opening fruit snack packets, and being cried at. Being a mom can be a very isolating task. While I am surrounded by constant noise and chatter, I long for real conversations that don’t center around cartoon characters or comic book heroes. My role right now may be mostly about the management of my home, but I know I’m not in it alone. I’m blessed by a community of moms who are on this journey with me and encourage me to be faithful to my calling while also helping me escape from it for brief moments of adult connection over coffee or hamburgers. It can take some extra effort to create times for investing in friendships, but I am a better mom because older women have mentored me and younger women have let me share their burdens.
